Privacy Policy

chennairents.in is operated by Subanesh. This page explains what data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and how you can control it.

What we collect

• IP address — Auto-detected on visit. Used to identify your pins, prevent spam, and enforce rate limits. Never displayed publicly.
• Email address — Required when you register a seeker pin or list a flat. Shared only with users whose pins match yours (see "How matching shares your contact" below). Never displayed on the map. We never sell your email or share it with third parties.
• Phone number — Required when you drop a seeker pin or list a flat. Same handling as email — shared only in match emails, never shown on the map, and never sold.
• Location coordinates — The latitude/longitude you place on the map. Rounded to approximately ~100 meters in public API responses to preserve absolute renter privacy.
• Rent details & preferences — BHK, rent amount, furnishing, optional bio/preferences. Displayed publicly on the map (your email and phone never appear on the map).
• Ratings & reports — Linked to your device identifier or IP for deduplication. Not displayed publicly.

How matching shares your contact

When you drop a seeker pin or list a flat, our matching pipeline periodically compares your pin against others within a 2.5 km radius that are compatible on budget and BHK size.

When a match is found, both sides receive a single email that contains each other's email address and phone number. This is the only way the matching feature can work — without contact sharing, there is no way for a matched seeker and landlord to reach each other.

Contact details are never displayed on the map. They only appear in match emails delivered to people whose pins actually passed the match criteria. If you do not want your contact shared with anyone, simply delete your pin — we only share details while your pin is active.

Third-party services

• Google Maps — Map tiles and place search. Subject to Google's privacy policy.
• Supabase — Database hosting and cloud backend infrastructure. Subject to Supabase's privacy policy.
• Resend — Transactional email delivery (the daily match emails). Subject to Resend's privacy policy.

Data retention

• Rent pins — Kept until you delete them or they receive 3 or more community abuse reports.
• Seeker pins — Auto-expire after 30 days. You can re-pin anytime.
• IP addresses — Retained for abuse prevention and anti-spam controls.
• Email & phone — Kept until you request deletion or your pin is removed. Once a match email is sent, the recipient may keep your contact information; we cannot recall it.

Your rights

• Delete your own pins anytime: tap your pin on the map, then choose "Delete."
• Request deletion of all your data by emailing hi@chennairents.in — we respond within 24–48 hours.
• We never sell, trade, or share your personal data with brokers, advertisers, or third parties.

Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS. API rate limiting and coordinate rounding protect against scraping. Emails are protected by database security policies. No passwords, no accounts.

Children's privacy

chennairents.in is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a minor, email hi@chennairents.in and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of chennairents.in after changes constitutes acceptance.
